Pop in pops out restaurant at home, 8th May 2020, feedback

May 12, 2020 By Sandy

Below is all the feedback received, in order received, with links to any responses.

  • That was fantastic Sandy. The only question is what are you doing for next week
  • Hi Sandy, just wanted to say thanks for the delicious meal, we had a really lovely evening. We will return all the dishes this weekend. Not sure I have any useful feedback to give, the instructions were all very clear etc. The only thing was that it would have been useful to have the right size dish to put the jasmine rice in (as I didn’t have one at home), but I appreciate that you may not have enough or would worry about not getting them back. We will definitely do it again, or better yet come to the restaurant when you can reopen.
  • It was a lovely meal and with minimal preparation and washing up. We’d be interested in doing it again. When would you like us to return the box and other containers?
Ps video was good and informative as were the written instructions. My only tiny comment would be that the the comings and goings at the coop as seen through the window in the background were slightly distracting. But overall I was impressed with the video though.
Pps the camera doesn’t hate you.
  • Dear Sandy, Congratulations on a lovely dinner and an imaginative way of having a virtual VE party.
Some feedback:    Thanks for the prompt delivery and cooking instructions – all good.
A couple of hiccups:    1.  No Jasmine Rice with the Hake parcel – so I made my own. 2.  The Amuse Bouche and the sauce for the fish got muddled so       I had them the wrong way round!
Despite my lack of sense of taste I found everything very nice and beautifully worked out.    I did wonder about eating the cold dishes without putting them in quarantine.    So if you do another ‘Pop Out’during Lockdown perhaps all the dishes could be hot ones that we could put in the oven first….
Thank you and Harriet for all your hard work ……. it was well worth it!!!
Stay safe and hope you get a good rest!
  • Hello Sandy
Just to say that we both enjoyed our cornucopia dinner last night very much and would certainly book another menu if you have the time and effort involved!
All 3 courses were beautifully presented, and it was great fun unwrapping all the ingredients – almost like Christmas! (although at first glance we weren’t quite sure which were the cold amuse bouche pots and the mayonnaise to go with the crab pots -they were all green!)
The lamb was delicious, so tender and the cooking suggestions were perfect. It made such a good evening for us, especially as we aren’t able to leave the house at all, so we took our time and it was a wonderful escape from the situation we are in.
We could see how much time it must have taken to put all the ingredients together, but it’s hard to see how you could improve the packaging. Perhaps you could double up some of the sauces etc in larger pots with snap on lids if you have 2 people having the same choices? The black container for the vegetables was very good for cooking, but then it’s not suitable to re-use, so I would be very happy to provide my own baking tin as I did for the lamb. We are very happy to return anything which you feel you could recycle. On that theme, the Barnatts have offered to drop our glass dishes etc into your black bin, so they should appear soon.
With very best wishes to you, Harriet and Nick
  • Dear Sandy,
    Some feedback as requested:
    1. All the food was lovely (as usual!) although the pop-out plating-up wasn’t up to the same standard as at the pop-ins! Portion sizes good. Pete said his pork pie was particularly excellent and that it would be good if you could sell it regularly through Golsbys. (He is northern, you know.) My favourite was the rhubarb cheesecake. It was nice to have the little touches like amuse bouche and seeded snap which we wouldn’t normally have at home.
    2. I’m glad written instructions were provided too, as although it was fun and instructive to watch the video beforehand, I don’t find it easy to watch while I’m actually doing stuff in the kitchen – yes I know, I’m showing my age!
The instructions proved perfect as food was hot but not overdone/dried up (although we weren’t 100% sure what ‘medium hot’ was, I guessed 190C (yes))
    3. P was slightly miffed that his choices (pork pie/chicken) were not included on the ‘wine suggestions’ page, but he seemed to manage OK!
    4. Would we order again? Yes, but probably not more than once a month as we are working our way through all the local takeaway/delivery options, one evening per week. [The Witney Cambodian was very good last week!]
    5. One suggestion – you could offer a two-course option – we just ate first two courses yesterday/Friday and had the puds this evening. (there will be a 2 course option next time)
    6. Another suggestion – a tie-up with the Cellars to do a wine tasting with food – eg. a specified white and red wine (or choice from a small selection) and range of small plate/nibble type food (again from small selection, or just two options – vegetarian or non-vegetarian). With both food and wine available to pick up in one go from you (ideally – if licensing allows). Then we could hold a Zoom wine-tasting with local friends. [we tried something similar with non-local friends last week, just wine no food, the couple with limited access to shops chose a NZ red and a NZ wine and the other 2 couples tracked down the same wines. It worked quite well. (something to consider for the future – thanks)
Do you know if anyone tried a communal Zoom meal Friday night? (yes, I think there were 2 zoom groups). We might well do next time, it would be nice to talk to someone else over dinner and those on their own might appreciate it even more.

  • Thank you very much for the meal which was delicious as always.  It was good fun to see the videos you and Harriet did.  I would say you are both naturals!  I hope you will do the pop out meal again.
    Take care
  • Thank you for a wonderful ‘Pop Out Restaurant at Home’ on Friday! It was a great experience. Everything worked perfectly.
Videos were excellent and added fun to the evening. Everything was easy to follow and it was pleasure to have an easy, but really delicious meal at home. You and Harriet had gone to so much effort to make sure every last detail was thought of. No faults anywhere – loved it! Not sure my attempt to serve the tagine was quite at your standard!
I wasn’t expecting all the little garnishes of sage leaves, rosemary, cherry tomato, and even the butter to go with the bread! I don’t think anyone would begrudge you if you didn’t go to this level of detail in future versions- it must have taken so long to wrap! Same with the amuse bouche – wonderfully tasty but if you were looking for one less container to wrap per person, I’d forgo this.
Thanks again and I’ll drop the containers back later today (or tomorrow, once this wind has disappeared!).
  • Hi Sandy and Harriet,
Fantastic! Very many thanks for a super meal – my absolute favourites in crab, lamb, fruit, cream and meringue, so you were on to a winner from the start and it did not disappoint. I can’t wait to next time! All the instructions were clear and worked. The rack of lamb was new for me and I loved the crust which I will re-create another time.I very much appreciated all your hard work to ensure our dinners were a wonderful experience.
