Below are general reheating instructions for the foods you have purchased from Cornucopia Cooks.
If you have any additional queries, or are unsure of any reheating procedures, please contact me. I will respond to all enquires which reach me.
The containers
The dark brown containers are oven and microwave proof. When reheating in an oven ensure that you place the container on a baking sheet.
The foil containers are oven proof only.
The white cardboard containers are microwave proof only. If at all unsure please ask us.
Some of the food comes covered in a film which is both microwave and oven proof. It needs piercing before putting in oven or microwave. If you want to brown and/or crispen foods in the oven, the film needs to be removed. These containers can not be placed under a grill.
Defrosting
Unless stated, all our meals should be defrosted overnight or for a minimum of 6 hours in the fridge. Larger items (ie portions of 6 or more) may take longer. Some of the veg dishes can be heated from frozen. Some of the desserts are better defrosted out of the fridge – please look at individual item for instructions.
Reheating in the oven
- Preheat your oven before placing the food inside.
- Pastry items should go into a hot oven initially
- Most other items need to go into a medium oven.
- The best position in the oven for the item is the centre.
- Ensure the container you place in the oven is suitable for the oven, place on a baking tray in case of leakage.
- The colder the food the longer it will take to reheat (items should not be kept out of refrigerator prior to cooking)
- The denser or thicker the food the longer it will take to reheat.
- The greater the volume the longer it will take to reheat.
- Do not reheat any food which is frozen or partially frozen.
- Most casseroles and pies will take between 35 and 50 minutes to become piping hot.
- If you wish to reheat food which has previously been frozen, ensure you defrost the item thoroughly in the refrigerator – allow enough time.
Reheating in a microwave
- Ensure you use the correct heat setting for the food being reheated.
