Snow is on the ground, calling for more comfort food.
Thick vegetable and barley soup, try adding some gammon when making to give a rich meaty flavour.
Bangers, mash, onion gravy. Serve with some carrots (add a handful of frozen peas just before carrots are cooked).
Risotto – butternut squash, toasted hazelnuts and spinach (use chicken stock, veg stock or just water and finish off with parmesan).
Bread and butter pud (ideal if you have any stale bread).
Crumble (great to start using up any frozen fruit you have or stored apples that are going soft).
